In my opinion the most exciting design happens in Spanish newspapers. Both in Spain and in South America.
Have a look at the Spanish front pages here. There is a great difference in between them. The traditional El Mundo, El Pais et concortes are VERY traditional with a lot of grey text. Very mature and serious.
Click on the others behind them and find papers with very strong use of colors and no fear of color in backgrounds and picture framings.
And a Mexican newspaper which shows the current tabloid trend in the region. Lot's of colour, strong pictures and big info graphics and short, short stories.
Is this the way to go. Is there a way to connect this very strong visual identity with a up-market approach?
Is there a middle way in between El Pais and the Colorful Tab?
